An unpaid account goes read-only, not dark. Bookings, stock, customers and invoices can all still be read and printed on the day the payment stops.
Not the records, not the accounts, not the history. Choosing a plan turns editing back on exactly where you left it.
Moving to a smaller plan while over its limit removes nothing. You keep what you have, and are refused only the next one until you are back under.
Records live in an ordinary database. Nothing about the way they are stored is designed to make leaving expensive.

Yes, 14 days, and no card is required to start one. The trial runs at the Enterprise level so you see the whole product rather than the tier you may end up on. You choose a plan at the end of it.
No. Every plan is paid and the trial is the only free part. A permanently free tier of the system a business runs its stock and its money on is a promise about support and uptime that a free tier cannot fund, and withdrawing one later is worse than never offering it.
The account goes read-only. Every page still opens, every record can still be read and printed, and nothing is deleted. You simply cannot save changes until you choose a plan again. Your own records are never used as leverage.
Active staff accounts, and item types in your inventory rather than units - forty chairs of one kind are one item. Going over a limit never removes anything: you keep every account and every record you already have, and are refused only the next one until you are back under or on a larger plan.
