Settling what happened
Every change to a quantity in the business, with who made it and when. It is written as part of the change itself rather than afterwards, so there is no version of events it can be missing.
Finding something
Filter by item, by person, or from a date — usually all three at once, because the question is nearly always “what did somebody do to this item that week”. Long results page by number, so you can go back to page four rather than scrolling to it again.
What it is for, and what it is not
Use it to settle what happened. Do not use it to look up a number — the item’s own page is faster for that and shows the bookings alongside the adjustments, which the log deliberately does not.
What is not in it
A hire changes nothing about an item, so a booking going out and coming back clean writes nothing here. That is not a gap: the log is a record of quantities changing, and nothing changed. The item’s history page merges both sides if you want the whole picture.
